In 1988 Music Sales Group bought EWH and the result is a local and international catalogue covering some of the greatest music from the last hundred years. A collection of over 250,000 copyrights of the finest classical, film scores, cabaret, musical, pop and rock repertoire. EWH is also the leading partner in print and songbooks.

The classical music companies within the Music Sales Group are internationally recognised as publishers of some of the 20th century’s greatest composers. Each publisher brings its own unique heritage and tradition to the group, and together they form the largest and strongest independent holding of 20th century classical music. Their expanding catalogues continue to offer the very finest in international contemporary music.

Chester Music - founded in 1860 – and Novello & Co - founded in 1830 – have long been identified with leading 20th century composers such as Stravinsky, Elgar, de Falla, Lutoslawski and Holst, and some of the finest international contemporary music such as Bennett, Glass, Gorecki, Henze, Maxwell Davies, Nyman, Preisner, Saariaho, Tavener and Weir.

Music Sales also owns many iconic pop catalogues, including Campbell Connelly,Sparta Florida, Noel Gay Music and Orange Sky Music Ltd. These cover nine decades of popular music from from every possible genre: soul, Broadway, punk, big band, disco, doo-wop, folk, jazz, novelty, rock, ska and pure pop. Our songs have been recorded by a multitude of great artists, ranging from The Beatles to Blondie, Sarah Vaughan to Diana Krall, Fats Waller in the 1920s to Robbie Williams in the new millennium.

Campbell Connelly was founded in London in 1925, and now comprises more than 75,000 individual song copyrights and musical shows. Campbell Connelly is particularly well-known for its standards, which are renowned as being among the 20th century’s finest. These include ‘We’ll Meet Again’, ‘Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend’, ‘Georgia On My Mind’, ‘Try A Little Tenderness’ and ‘Pennies From Heaven,’ as well as major show scores like‘Sweet Charity.’

The 20,000-strong Sparta Florida catalogue comprises mainstream popular hits, blues originals and film & TV music. However, it is most famous for its astonishing selection of ska and reggae songs. Virtually every significant Jamaican artist has recorded a Sparta Florida track, from Bob Marley and Dandy Livingstone to John Holt and Horace Andy. Sparta Florida songs have also found favour with many contemporary R & B, Hip Hop and Dancehall acts, who have covered and sampled anthems such as ‘Man Next Door’ and ‘I’mStill In Love With You’ to great commercial success.

Noel Gay Music owns over 6,000 titles, ranging from ‘30s classics such as George Formby’s ‘Leaning On A Lamp-Post’ to 60s novelties ‘Right Said Fred’ and ‘Lily The Pink.’ Iconic TV themes such as those for ‘Blackadder’ and ‘Red Dwarf’ also come under the Noel Gay Music umbrella. Many of this catalogue’s titles were written by Noel Gay himself, who stands as one of the most successful and enduringly popular British songwriters of all time. His songs are often seen as an important symbol of 20th century British culture and entertainment, as embodied in ‘The Lambeth Walk’ and the musical ‘Me And My Girl.’

Music Sales also controls the catalogues of Tempo Music and the Embassy MusicCorporation. Tempo Music comprises the legendary jazz and be-bop compositions of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn; their songs have been recorded by every great jazz singer from Ella Fitzgerald to Nina Simone. Embassy Music is one of the most extensive doo-wop and traditional R & B catalogues in the world, and includes such celebrated tracks as ‘Life Is But ADream.’

A very unique catalogue Music Sales controls is Tumi Music, the largest independent Latin American label based in the UK presenting over 2000 Cuban and other Latin American musical copyrights in all different genres.

The album has gone straight to #1 on the Billboard 200, as well as #1 on R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Rap Albums

“Try a Little Tenderness” is 70 years old, and has been covered by a range of artists including Michael Bublé, Chris Brown, Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra, and Tina Turner. This version is yet another to add to the repertoire, and we are delighted to be a part of Otis.

Watch the Throne is the collaborative album debut of Kanye West and Jay-Z. The album has gone straight to #1 on the Billboard 200, as well as #1 on R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Rap Albums.

Jay-Z has the most R&B/Hip-Hop album #1s among solo artists, and Watch the Throne is Kanye West’s sixth #1 album, so it should come as no surprise that the CD has currently sold 436,000 copies, making it the second largest sales week of 2011, for an album.

UPDATE:

Watch the Throne sold 177,000 copies last week in the US alone, and remains #1 in Canada, Norway and Sweden. As well as this, it is in the top 10 in Denmark, Germany, Flanders, and the Netherlands. And the sales keep soaring!

Established in 1857 as a modest music seller and engraver, Edition Wilhelm Hansen is now the largest music publisher in Scandinavia. The company catalogue includes the most celebrated Scandinavian composers, from established masters like Grieg, Sibelius and Carl Nielsen to contemporary Danish composers such as Bent Sørensen, Poul Ruders, Per Nørgård, Hans Abrahamsen and Karsten Fundal.

By Wilhelm Hansen represents a variety of copyrights, based on the greatest Danish classical pop titles from all times.
